A Mouse in My Studio –What Would You Do?

A Mouse in My Studio –What Would You Do? post image

Yesterday we found our kitty, Coco, standing in front of a tiny mouse shivering in fear on the kitchen floor.

When Coco finds a mouse she just loves to play with it, and hasn’t realized–in the five years of her young life–that with one easy swipe her sharp little claws could quickly end its life.

John managed to place  the intact tiny mouse in a transparent plastic container, which gave me an opportunity to closely observe its beauty. In my studio, I made a few watercolor sketches of the little mouse and, really, it’s no wonder mice have been subjects of so many lovely children stories and illustrations. Mice are adorable little creatures to look at.

If only it would behave like a ‘civilized’ pet, I would keep it in my studio!

After much debate about what to do with our little furry captive, we discretely set it free in the back corner of a local grocery store (name undisclosed) rather than outside in the freezing snow and ice. We thought it would find many new friends, and we wanted it to have a second chance😢.

What would you have done with this little mouse?

Our cat ate the mouse it found (and was sick for several days) on our bed one day while I was still sleeping, so I totally appreciate your relocating the one you found. They are adorable and I love your sketch!

Oh Suzy… The whole scene sounds quite awful, poor kitty!
Yes, relocating the little one was a good thing to do… but I felt a bit guilty because I passed the trouble to someone else.😉
Thank you for sharing your story!

Many years ago I rescued a mouse from one of our cats but as a thank you it sank it’s little teeth into one of my fingers. The shock of this made me fling the little furry one over the wall. I do not know if it landed safely but I hope so. I was a little more careful rescuing small furry creatures after that.

      Hi Wendy
It must have been such a shock to receive that bite as a thank you, but it makes for a great story. I have a smile on my face as I read it!
Thank you for sharing it here.  🙂
