A Useful Lesson From a Humble Wildflower

Flowers in watercolor, rose, iris, snapdragon, tulip, bluebell

The first flower I posted for World Watercolor Month, a rose, happens to be the emblem of my adoptive country, USA. The last flower posted is an orchid (a close resemblance to the Cattleya Trianae) the emblem of my country of origin, Colombia.

And those are indeed beautiful and quite regal flowers to admire, but…

Have you ever stopped at the roadside or at a crack in the pavement to take a look at a wildflower like chicory? Chicory has a crown of blue-lilac petals with a delicate center and it grows along the roads here in Vermont.

I tend to ignore these humble wildflowers, but they have a useful lesson to offer.

Stop, breathe deeply and let joy in as you admire the beauty of a wildflower. From a wildflower we can learn to bloom, regardless of our circumstances, wherever we might be planted.

This is the last group of flowers painted to celebrate World Watercolor Month.
