Painting Watercolor Flowers to Celebrate World Watercolor Month

Flowers in watercolor, rose, iris, snapdragon, tulip, bluebell

Having a timed painting project is a great way to give yourself structure and create space in your day for art, even if is for a short period at a time.

July is World Watercolor Month. To celebrate, I’m painting and giving away a watercolor flower every day of the month via my Instagram account. My goal is to drop the pencil, look at my photo references and freely paint paint a flower.

For this project in particular, I work on a few flowers at a time, concentrating on seeing shape, color, light and shadow, and not becoming too preoccupied with the end result.

Here I the first batch of five watercolor flowers I painted in July. I added a positive word to focus on each day.
