Historical Note
The origin of origami is not known with certainty, but there is speculation that it dates to the invention of paper, in China, around 105A.D. Japan is known though as the country where origami developed a strong tradition. There is also evidence indicating that paper folding developed in Europe in the 15th century A.D. after the Arabs introduced the papermaking process.
In recent years origami has experienced a great advancement and is found in diverse fields and applications:
• Artists use origami as a medium of expression.
• Scientists explore origami for its practical and theoretical value.
• Mathematicians study its geometry, an inherent aspect.
• Teachers incorporate origami into the curricula of math, art, language arts, and social studies.
